Parafrenieri (part of the Pontifical Court)


The Pontifical Parafrenieri (Grooms) (singular: Parafraniere) are high members of the Pontifical Court of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church in direct service of the Prince-Bishop. The Pontifical Parafrenieri are a special ceremonial attendants of the Prince-Bishop of Rome-Ruthenia. They are noble liverymen and attend to the Prince-Bishop when in a vehicle. They are also the chair-bearers who carry the Prince-Bishop on the sedia gestatoria when it is used. Overall, they assist with ceremonial functions. They are entitled to a special red habit or red uniform, and each holds the rank of Count Palatine of the Pontifical Imperial State.
